A wonderful new booklet packed full of insight and practical ways to evangelise and reach our cities. This booklet also ships with a plan. Here is an excerpt from this latest Branch Press Booklet:
From being gathered to being scattered Servants.
Gathered groups grow Churches, scattered servants change cities. A Scattered Servant is someone empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring life to cities. This is nothing new.
‘Those who had been scattered preached the Gospel wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what was said. For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralysed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city.’ Acts 8:4-8.
As in the early Church, so at Coleraine, mission was not centred on a building. Mission was in the hearts of scattered servants, every day, everywhere. It was unstoppable, unpredictable, fed by the daily wonders God was doing. Early Celtic missionaries were the same. They got into frail Coracles, hoisted a sail, and went wherever the wind of the Spirit took them. Signs and wonders followed. They knew that the Holy Spirit would be present and powerful wherever they landed. They brought the light of Christ to set dark cities free.
Broken Cities need more than bigger Churches
Broken cities need the Church to show up beyond the building. Broken cities need tender hearts to go and demonstrate the love and power and mercy of Jesus Christ. As people are set free from pain and brokenness, abuse and abandonment, isolation and fear, addictions and demonic attack, so they become multipliers themselves, like the Gadarene demoniac telling people. Then there will be Joy in the city!
